Use a Contour ShuttlePro or ShuttleXpress

On the Mac, a Contour ShuttlePro v2 or ShuttleXpress over USB drives the prompter the way an edit controller drives a deck. The ring is speed while you hold it, the dial nudges the reading line, and the buttons can be remapped.

  1. Plug it in and allow Input Monitoring. The first time, macOS asks. Or turn on Cutvey Teleprompter under System Settings, Privacy & Security, Input Monitoring. macOS applies this to every USB control surface; the app reads no keystrokes.
  2. Check it's seen. Settings, Shuttle, Device shows the Shuttle's name, or Not connected, or Waiting for permission.
  3. Use the ring and the dial. Turn the outer ring away from you to run forward, toward you to run back for a pickup. Let go and the scroll goes back to how it was, from where the ring left it. The inner dial nudges the reading line a line at a time, running or not.
  4. Set the feel. Ring speed is Gentle, Standard or Aggressive. Dial step runs from a quarter of a line to four lines, one by default.

The buttons

ShuttlePro v2: 7 starts and stops, 6 and 8 go to the previous and next cue, 5 and 9 to the previous and next script, 2 and 3 jump the speed down and up. ShuttleXpress: 3 starts and stops, 2 and 4 are previous and next cue, 1 and 5 jump the speed. Change any of them on Shuttle buttons; Restore the shipped buttons puts them back. The ring and the dial can't be reassigned. While the ring holds the speed, voice follow shows HELD.

If that didn't work

If the Shuttle shows as not supported, it's a Contour model other than the ShuttlePro v2 and ShuttleXpress. Write to us.
