Help / Record and hand off
Record a take under the lens on iPhone or iPad
Turn on Camera in the prompter's settings and the script moves to a short strip beside the lens while you record. Every take saves to your Photos.
- Turn on Camera. Open Settings, then Camera. The app asks for the camera, the microphone and permission to add to Photos. It can only add; it never reads your library.
- Set up the shot. Front camera (the default) or back, 1080p or 4K where the camera has it, and exactly 24, 25 or 30 frames a second (30 is the default). Stabilization is Off, Standard or Enhanced. HDR is off until you turn it on, and then records 10-bit HLG in HEVC where the device supports it.
- Choose how much script you see. Strip size sets how much script sits next to the lens: Small, Medium or Large, which is two, three or four lines. Medium is the default.
- Check the mic chip. It names the microphone in use, built-in or external, shows a level meter, and warns you if an external mic drops mid-take.
- Press record. The take saves to Photos when you stop.

What keeps a take safe
- The file is written in two-second pieces, so a crash leaves a playable file.
- Recording won't start without about a minute of space plus a 250 MB reserve.
- If the device gets too hot, it stops and saves.
- If you said no to Photos, the take stays in the app for you to share.
Recording is on iPhone and iPad. The Mac and the Watch don't record. Voice follow can run while you record, listening to the camera's own audio.
