Help / Drive it with a remote

Turn a laptop browser into a remote

On the device holding the script, turn on the browser remote for the session. Then open the address or scan the QR code from any browser on the same network and type the four-digit code.

  1. Host a session. On the device with the script, open Nearby in the library (on a Mac, Session, then Nearby) and tap Host on this device.
  2. Turn on the browser remote. It's off until you switch it on, and only for that session.
  3. Open it in a browser. Type the address the host shows (a name ending in .local, or a number) or scan the QR code, on a laptop, tablet or phone on the same network. Windows and Android browsers work too.
  4. Type the four-digit code. The page gives you start and stop, slower, faster, previous cue, next cue and back to the start, with the clocks.

What the browser gets

Controls and clocks only, never the script. The page loads nothing from the internet. It's a plain web page on your own network, so anyone on that network could watch the button presses: use it on a network you trust. A browser counts toward the session's Devices allowed, eight by default.

If that didn't work

If the page won't open, check the laptop is on the same network as the host, and that the host shows the browser remote turned on. Write to us.
